1-metre Star by Soheila Sokhanvari and Jflemay

Started and completed in 2022

Artist: Soheila Sokhanvari

Architect: Jean-François C. Lemay

Commissioned by: Kristin Hjellegjerde Gallery

During the summer preceding Soheila Sokhanvari’s solo exhibition “Rebel Rebel” at the Barbican Centre, Kristin Hjellegjerde Gallery commissioned Jflemay to create a 1-metre version of the 3-metre Star featuring in the exhibition. Soheila and Jean-François collaborated once more to deliver this portable replica.

A work of art combining Jean-François’ technical artistry and Soheila’s vision, the Star shifts from a glowing jewel to a reflective, almost opaque polyhedron. It is lit inside by a digital projection of Iran’s actresses between 1936 and 1979.
